Y Pant Sweeps the Board

Last Thursday, our students won all three categories in the Youthspeaks competition. Our Year 11 team – Isobel Bannister, Amy Bridges and Rhiannon Falshaw-Skelly – were overall team winners and will go forward to the regional round of the competition in the new year.

Our Year 10 team – Matthew Ingram, Eloise Peacock and Martha Reed – ran them very close, with an outstanding display.

The individual awards on the night also went to Y Pant. Rhiannon Falshaw-Skelly was named Best Speaker and Matthew Ingram named Best Chairperson.

The Year 11 team examined the motion, ‘The X-Factor should be renamed the Exploitation Factor’, examining the show’s role in today’s music and television industries.

The Year 10 team tackled the motion, 'This house believes that euthanasia should be legalised’.

Mr Tucker was thrilled with the result: “Every speaker was a huge success and an absolute credit to the school. Well done. This was a fantastic result for Y Pant. Even more impressive was the fact that our two teams were the youngest in the competition.”

A big thanks goes to Mr Howells and Mrs Edwards for their guidance and support in preparing the two teams.

If you want to get involved in debating at the school, please see Mr Howells in Room 57.
