The Learning Support Department exists to support the learning of all pupils within the school not simply those with Special Educational needs. It is our intention to ensure that each pupil is able to function at an appropriate level academically.
At present we cater for the academic, social, emotional and behavioural needs of children, from the gifted and talented to those with quite severe complex educational needs.
In order to support children effectively we draw upon a wide range of resources. Each member of the Learning support team regularly attends relevant training and refresher courses which are tailored to the individual child that they work along side.
At Y Pant, we have approximately 140 pupils on register at present with identified special educational needs. The children’s progress is monitored and reported to parents on a frequent basis.
Some of the pupils with additional learning needs may be accompanied to lessons by a Learning Support Assistant. This is to ensure that amongst other things the pupils have a full understanding of the subject, to motivate and to encourage the pupils, and to help them concentrate on and finish work set by the class teacher.
