Although most pupils are only timetabled for a Short Course in GCSE ICT, most of them in fact complete the Full Course qualification. In ICT, coursework is worth 60% of the total marks. Pupils start their GCSE coursework in Year 9, working on the Portfolio. This comprises 3 sections: Communicating Information, Data Handling and Spreadsheet Modelling.
Within Communicating Information, pupils in Year 9 complete an extensive presentation in PowerPoint about Wales, or another European country. In Year 10 they add to this section creating a tourist brochure in Publisher. In the Spring term of year 9 pupils create a members database for a club and perform a variety of tasks on this including parameter queries and mail merge. The Summer term is spent on spreadsheets.
