The Layout of Llancaiach Fawr
The Porch and Entry
Because Llancaiach Fawr was a fortified manor house, for a long time there was only one entrance. All visitors were first admitted to the Entry where they would wait to be taken to the family rooms above. While waiting they would be seen and served by servants in the kitchen.
The Kitchen
Cooking was done over an open fire which was always kept lit. Water was carried into the kitchen but was got rid of through a sluice in the wall
