These were used for storage and as places for the servants to sleep. These rooms would have been very hot in summer and freezing cold in winter. Male and female servants slept in different parts of the attics separated by a wooden screen. There was a peephole into one of the attics to watch over the female servants. This was necessary since an unwanted pregnancy would lead to unemployment and poverty.
