Each of these topics can lead you on to a leaving qualification, should you choose a Design & Technology subject for GCSE.
The Head of Y Pant Design & technology is Mr Stephens –
“ I hope you will enjoy your time in our department. I promise you will find something that fascinates you and later in life you will remember a useful lesson you learned with us. It might be when you are drawing, fixing the car or building a toy for your children – Design and Technology is a life skill.
“You will produce many projects throughout your time at Y Pant. Whoever your teacher is, the overall message will be about the Design Process, making and the needs of our society. We also place an important emphasis on Sustainable Development with the six ‘R’s of Design – Reduce > Re-use > Recycle > Repair > Refuse >Re-think – to minimise waste. With these things in mind you will be helped to Design and make a number of projects and in doing so, you will extend your appreciation of the products we use in our daily lives.
“There is one other really important point you must know, which is the correct way to behave in our department. Every workshop has machines and tools that can be very dangerous if you don’t take care. We will show you how to use equipment safely and it is important you concentrate at these times. So please, when you enter the department, be calm and quiet, think and plan carefully, but feel free to ask if you are not sure.
“I look forward to seeing you in my lessons and hope you will soon become another of our star pupils.”
Mr M Stephens
