Shoebox Appeal

You’d be forgiven for thinking that Christmas had come early this year as pupils could be seen bringing Christmas presents to school during the month of October.

Pupils and staff from Y Pant School continued with their commitment to charity work by supporting the work of Operation Christmas Child last half term. Both individuals and groups of pupils throughout the school were asked to fill shoeboxes full of gifts to send to under-privileged children in Eastern Europe, Asia and Africa.

Sixth Formers Jessie Dale, Heather Chick, Alice Roebuck, Carys Spencer, Dennese Tan and Liz Parker played a key role in the appeal as they talked to pupils during assemblies about the work of the charity and encouraged pupils to give generously.

Volunteers from the charity arrived at the school to collect the 207 shoeboxes that had been donated and were amazed by the generosity of pupils and that so many shoeboxes had been donated in such a short time.

During a year 9 assembly Mr Barrington, a representative of Operation Christmas Child, spoke to pupils about the work of the charity and recognised the contribution of one of our pupils, Chloe Robinson, who donated 48 shoeboxes to the appeal – an outstanding contribution from one pupil!

He reminded pupils of the significance of their donations, that in sending the boxes we have not simply sent a gift of toys but a gift of love, which will remind others of the true message of Christmas.

Pupils of Y Pant should be very proud of the significant difference that they will be making to the lives of 207 children this year, who will for the first time be opening a Christmas present of their own and will be hearing the message loud and clear that someone is thinking of them
