Pupils from year 10 and 11 entertained the 50+ Forum at Pontyclun Athletic club in what is now becoming an annual event. Becky Davies on guitar, Jackie Hopkins on piano and Sophie Thomas on vocals, started the entertainment with traditional carols. Ffion Stallworthy and Megan Brown performed a compilation of carols which they scored themselves. The girls finished by encouraging all forum members to join in with ‘We wish you a merry Christmas’.
The young people then join the forum members for lunch, where the forum chairman, Mr William Hopkins, thanked the pupils for attending and praised them for their performances and as good role models for young people today.
The 6th form enjoyed a visit from Santa at their last assembly before Christmas. However they were disappointed to hear that he could not produce A-level grades, apprenticeships and university places from his sack and they would have to continue their hard work. The mince pies and Christmas cake he did bring helped keep up energy levels for the deadlines most have this week!
On Tuesday 13th December we held the annual Christmas Concert at the Bethel Baptist Centre in Pontyclun. It was a superb evening and out congratulations and thanks go to the Music department (Mr Thomas, Mr Breeze, Mrs Kelly and Mrs Cheetham) and all the performers for their hard work.

Congratulations to the boys’ key stage 4 basketball team who competed at the 5×60 RCT finals day on Wednesday 7th December.
After putting a lot of points past a variety of schools and comprehensively winning the group the team progressed through the to semi finals. A local derby against Bryncelynog was not enough to stop the Y Pant steam train and the boys progressed through to the final against Tonypandy. The final was a competitive affair that saw Y Pant take an early lead. Despite the best efforts of Tonypandy, the now vastly injured Y Pant team were too strong for their opponents and ran out comfortable victors with a final score of 22-10 being recorded.
The team now progress to the South Wales round which is held in February at the Cardiff Institute of Sport.
On Friday 9th December we held the annual senior citizens’ Christmas party at Y Pant. Local senior citizens enjoyed a meal and drinks served by students and staff as well as bingo, performances from school music groups and even a visit from Father Christmas!
Some of the comments from satisfied customers:
“This school does so much for our community. We are so grateful to the staff and pupils for all that you do for us.”
“This school has some very talented pupils!”
Well done to the 6th form charity committee for their organisation and work on the day. In particular, well done to Dr Lianne Jones and Caroline Wool for their hard work.
Felicity Bancroft, Lauren Barratt, Laura Hopkins, Sophia Yilmaz and Telisha Osburn took part in the South Wales Schools Novice Competition. They did extremely well as they have only been doing gymnastics since September. They narrowly missed out on 3rd place. If anyone is interested in taking part in Gymnastics and attending Gymnastics Club see Mrs Butler in room 26 for more information.
Congratulations to former Y Pant pupil Scott Andrews who wins his second international cap for Wales when he makes his first start for his country against Australia at the Millennium Stadium on Saturday 3rd December.
Scott joins fellow former Y Pant pupil Bradley Davies who is well established in the team.
Another former pupil Jevon Groves was in the World Cup winning Welsh 7s team.
