Autumn Term Curriculum Plan

School Uniform Shop 2017

The uniform shop will be open in school on the following dates:

  • Tuesday  July 18 – 4.30pm – 8pm
  • Wednesday July 19 – 4.30pm – 8pm
  • Thursday July 20 – 4.30pm – 8pm
  • Tuesday August 29 – 4.30pm – 8pm
  • Wednesday August 30 – 4.30pm – 8pm
  • Thursday August 31 – 4.30pm – 8pm

Please note: the shop is also open every Thursday during term time (3.00pm until 6.00pm).

Should any parent require a special order, i.e. smaller or larger size than usually stocked, then the order will need to be placed as soon as possible.

I would like to remind parents that volunteers run the uniform shop in order to keep costs of the uniform down. If you are interested in volunteering your services please contact Mrs. Carter , P.A. to the Headteacher on (01443) 562250.

Languages Day

A great languages day for our primary cluster schools on June 29th. Year 6 came to visit and had a fantastic time trying out French, Spanish, German  and even Mandarin in the many language workshops. It was a great opportunity for the Year 10 French GCSE group to share their language skills, and along with Year 12 French and Yr 9 Language Ambassadors to guide the primary pupils though their language journey.

Parent Governor Vacancy

The governing body of Y Pant Comprehensive School has a vacancy for a parent governor and is looking for parents who are interested in this role.  A parent governor is a person with parental responsibility for a pupil attending the school.

The role of governor is an important one, as governing bodies are responsible for undertaking a variety of functions connected with the effective running of the school, including curriculum, budgeting and staffing matters.  You will be supported in these duties by other experienced members of the governing body, the headteacher and the Governor Support Officer. 

The Authority will provide relevant support and information.  Training is provided free of charge.  New governors are encouraged to undertake the foundation course, held at local venues, within the first year of appointment. 

The governing body works together as a group attending a minimum of three meetings per year.  As a parent governor, you will normally hold office for a period of four years, even if your child leaves the school during this time.  However, written resignations may be submitted at any time.

Becoming a governor is subject to certain regulations. Before completing the nomination form, please check that you are eligible by reading the criteria listed on the back page.  The school’s Clerk to the Governing Body will acknowledge your nomination form in due course. 

The Governing Body values your interest.  We would welcome the opportunity to answer any queries you may have, about becoming a governor, by telephone, e-mail or face-to-face at school.

Welcome back – yr 12

Welcome back everyone! I know that you have all worked very hard this year and deserve a well-earned break in the summer holidays. Now the exams are out of the way we need to concentrate on starting the A2 course and getting back into the routine of school life.

It is important to remember that you cannot drop any AS subjects at this stage until you have had your grades in the summer. We believe that once you have had your results you are able to make informed and important decisions about your future choices. You can make this decision on the first day back in September but we will also be running a Sixth Form Open Morning, in the summer break, to allow you an opportunity to drop in and discuss your options with staff.

The summer term holds some very important events in Sixth Form such as the nominations for the Sixth Form leadership roles, UCAS Induction including a trip to the USW and the Welsh Baccalaureate Fortnight. Further details of these events will be shared with you on the web site and Gmail.

This term we will be offering substantial support in your careers choices. I would highly recommend that you visit the UCAS web site www.ucas.com to start looking at subject and university options to kick start the research. Another good web site is www.prospects.ac.uk that helps you look at the types of jobs that you can consider. The structure of the day will vary this term. There will only be compulsory registration (8.30am-8.50am) during the Welsh Baccalaureate fortnight from the 3rd of July – 14th of July. The timetable will collapse during the fortnight to accommodate a wide range of activities, however P5 and 6 lessons will continue as normal.

In addition to this Sixth Form Assembly will continue every Friday and is compulsory for all to attend. I would like to continue with the successful use of communication through gmail and encourage you to check your mail on a daily basis so that you can be updated with news. Please also continue to use the sign in and out system as a way of ensuring your safety in the school.

Furthermore, we have some very important whole school events taking place this term and I would like to encourage you all to support them. We will need assistance with the Lower School Sponsored Walk and suggest that this may be an excellent opportunity to start fundraising for the Prom next year. The school Eisteddfod, the Creative Arts Evening and the school production of Oliver are just some of the important events that require help and support from Sixth Formers. You have helped to establish an excellent sense of community within the school and I know that this will continue throughout your time in Y Pant.

Finally, Dr Caulfield and I will be running a Sixth Form Clinic every morning in the Sixth Form Area this term. If you have any queries or problems, please come and see us or Gmail us, as we are here to help.

 

Key Stage 3 Assessment Period

The annual Assessment Period for Key Stage 3 students will run from Tuesday 13th to Friday 23rd June. Details of assessment content for each subject can be found in Table 2 below.

Year 7 and 8All exams will take place during normal timetabled lessons within the Assessment Fortnight.  Pupils will be informed of the exact date and period by their subject teachers.

Year 9 :  Most exams will take place in the Main Hall or the Sports Hall (see Table 1 below for details which may be subject to change). This will be a useful experience for students in preparation for GCSE and other external examinations they will sit next year.
